What is web hosting?

Web hosting is the act of renting space and bandwidth from a provider on a month by month basis so a user can publish a website or other web related information

What is a domain name?

A domain name is used to assign a name and a TLD (Top Level Domain) to an IP (Internet Protocol) address.

This is used to redirect a user to an assigned IP (Internet Protocol) address. This is basically the address for a website and is used to locate it. Using IP (Internet Protocol) address would be too hard so domain names we're put into place to make finding websites easier.

What exactly is bandwidth?

Bandwidth (also referred to as transfer) is the amount of data that your web host allows your site to send in a month.

Each character that your website sends out takes up a byte. Images can be as large as 100,000 bytes, and downloads can easily reach sizes of 10,000,000 bytes. To that end, bandwidth transfer per month is usually allocated by gigabytes - one gigabyte is 1 billion bytes.

If your site does exceed your monthly bandwidth allowance, your host usually notifies you for any futher assistant.
